Guest post- How To Design New Doors For A Bathroom Vanity!

This article is provided by Lacey Chic.

Finding ways to redesign your bathroom can be tricky business. Tricky because there are so many different approaches that you can take. The bathroom is different than any other room in the house and the design process is as well. Not to mention that if you are not comfortable with plumbing, than installing a new sink or shower may be out of the question. There are still many things that the amateur DIY designer can get away with. One of those things is replacing the vanity doors with new updated doors. Here is one of the easy, affordable, and effective things you can complete in your bathroom to help update the look and make it a more comfortable space.

One of the centerpieces of any bathroom is the vanity. An updated vanity has a huge effect on the look and feel of a bathroom. But for the DIY homeowner trying to save a couple of dollars, buying and installing a new vanity and sink may be out of the question for some. An easier approach is to make the original vanity look like a new one. This can be done by installing new doors on it.

Step 1:

The first thing to do when updating your vanity with new doors is to remove all of the original old doors. To remove the doors, simply unscrew the hinges attached to the door.  The part of the hinge that is attached to the inside of the cabinet can remain screwed in as it will be re-used. Keep the old doors handy as they will make a great template for your new doors to make sure they are all the correct size.

Step 2:

Measure and cut for the new doors. The best material to use for the new doors is ⅜ inch MDF which is generally less expensive than wood. Using the measurements from the original door, cut the MDF to the correct size using a chop saw. Then using the chop saw, cut rips 2 inches for the raised rails and styles on all sides of the MDF. Attach the rails and styles to the door using glue and wood nails.

Step 3:

After the doors and the rails are attached, they need to be sanded down. The best tool for this is a router which will chamfer the edges. This gives a smooth even surface that is beveled. Now it is time to paint the doors. This is where creativity comes in. When painting, make sure you roll the paint on so that the paint sets nice and smooth. It is also important to paint both sides of the doors so that moisture does not warp the wood.
