Home Office Interior Design Tips To Maximize Remote Working Productivity!

This post is provided by Matt Lee.

Remote work can be a challenge. Distractions are abundant, and staying on track can be tough. If you are new to working from your home office, you are probably wondering if it gets easier.

With a few interior design tricks, you can turn your home office into a productivity sanctuary.

Here are eight interior design tips to maximize your remote working productivity.

Interior Design Tip #1: Carve Out Your Space

If your current home office also serves as a guest bedroom or if you are working from the kitchen table – it is time to carve out your own space.

If you have an empty room, consider using it exclusively for your office. However, if you do not have the extra space, do not fret. Use decorative screens or room dividers to create a blocked off area just for work.

Interior Design Tip #2: Adapt A Minimalistic Aesthetic

Minimalism is all about reducing clutter to clear your mind. Get rid of everything that is taking up space in your home office. Add in extra storage if you need to, but be sure to eliminate any visible clutter.

It is impractical to try to stay focused if you are surrounded by chaos and clutter.

Interior Design Tip #3: Go For Low Maintenance

Do not add extra work to your workday. Choose easy-to-clean materials and surfaces. For instance, instead of a solid oak desk, go for white solid surface countertops, which you can clean with plain old soap and water. Rather than buying a clunky, shag rug, get an easy-to-vacuum, jute rug.

Alternatively, instead of bogging yourself down with tons of little knick-knacks to dust, choose a couple of focus décor pieces to cut down on dusting time. (You get the picture.)

Interior Design Tip #4: Choose Shades Of Blue

If you are stuck on a color scheme, go for shades of blue. There are plenty of scientific studies that show that shades of blue can increase calm and focus. If blue is not your thing, green is also an excellent color for improving concentration.

If your job requires you to think creatively, be sure to add splashes of yellow, too. Yellow can increase creativity and inspiration. However, too much yellow can frustrate you, so do not overdo it on the yellow.

Interior Design Tip #5: Play With The Lighting

If you have access to natural lighting, be sure to keep those windows open during the day. Natural light can improve moods and boost overall productivity. If you do not have access to a window in your home office, focus on choosing lighting fixtures that illuminate your office evenly.

Stay away from harsh lighting, but be sure that you are not trying to work in an office that is too dim. Both can reduce productivity. There are plenty of unique light fixtures, from hanging lights to standing lamps to boost the lighting, while improving the overall aesthetic.

Interior Design Tip #6: Add In Natural Elements

Greenery can make you happier and improve your productivity. So, consider adding a few low-maintenance plants to your home office. Plants are also back in style in the interior design world, so they not only provide benefits, but they are chic, too.

Cacti, succulents, ferns, and bonsai trees are all fantastic, beautiful choices.

Interior Design Tip #7: Create A Distraction Space

When you are at home, taking a break can be dangerous, because it is way too easy to get pulled into Netflix or family activities. Be proactive and set up space in your office for you to step away without actually having to leave your office.

You can include things like books, a yoga mat, brain puzzles, hand weights, or any other productive distractions in your distraction space.

Interior Design Tip #8: Custom-Tailor Your Space

The most exciting perk of working from home is that you have full control of your space. Custom-tailor your office to work for you. If your chair is not comfortable, then change it out. If your desk is not the right height, get a new one. If the decoration is making you feel apathetic, get some new décor.

Take note of the parts of your office that cause you the most distraction. Then, work to improve them. Transform your office into a productivity zone specially built for you.

Start Improving Your Productivity Today

These eight tips are tried-and-true interior design techniques for boosting productivity. If you commit to doing them, you will be on your way to crushing your work goals in no time. You might find that you are more productive at home than you are at the regular office!

How A Home Can Be Beautiful And Functional!

This post is provided by James Fitzpatrick.

When it comes to decorating your home, you want the aesthetic to match your personality. However, a home does need to be functional, especially if a household emergency comes about. Here are some items you should consider splurging on that will provide a great aesthetic but also provide functional benefit when it comes time for a household emergency.

1) Bulk Medical Supplies

At any moment, there could be a medical emergency in your household and you will want to make sure that you are prepared. While many bathrooms have Band-Aids in a drawer, what you really need is a fully stocked first-aid kit. Not only that, but you should also consider spending a little extra money to make it an emergency survival kit. There are many items to consider. Go to usamedicalsurgical.com to find out more about bulk medical supplies. This site has almost everything you would need for an emergency.

2) Toilet Plunger

In most households, a toilet plunger tends to be placed right next to the toilet. But if you are about modernizing your bathroom, do not spend two dollars on a piece of plastic that brings an eye sore to the bathroom. Instead, go a little crazy and buy something that looks stylish. Go for something in chrome and bronze and consider buying something that comes with a holder. That way when it is time to use the plunger, any drip off can go right into the holder instead of on the floor. Sometimes you can get a set plunger paired with a toilet bowl cleaner.

3) Keypad Entry For Homes

It is always a problem when a key breaks or gets lost and you get locked out of your home. When this happens, it is not a pleasant experience to have to call the police or your spouse to find the spare. To solve this problem, consider something higher-tech, like a keypad entry system. Not only is this a secure way to protect your house, but it can make your door a little flashier. Most keypads tend to be in some metallic form, so you can go for a stylish chrome or bronze, or a black painted keypad.

4) Security Cameras

Speaking of security, you should consider some form of external surveillance for your household. You can either set up security cameras above your key entry points or consider investing in doorbells with cameras. A company called Ring sells doorbells that also act as a camera so a person can see on their phone or any installed video screen in their house who is at their door. They can also keep track of visitors when they are not home in case a break-in is attempted.

5) Solar Power Panels With Built-In Generator

You do not want to be caught in the dark when the power goes out. However, if your house could run on solar, then it is possible to avoid any power outages because your home would generate its own power as well as be able to store it for emergencies. Tesla is a great company to choose as they provide both solar panels and solar wall generators. While these tend to fall under more expensive investments, they are worth having in any household to withstand any disaster that could typically leave your house without power.

6) Space Heater And Fan

While many homes have HVAC already installed for the elements, you may come across a scenario where your furnace or AC goes. You will want to make sure you are prepared by investing in a space heater for the wintertime, and an oscillating fan for the summertime. Oscillating fans are saturated in today's market, so do not always settle for the cheapest model. Fans come in all sizes and colors so you should be able to find one that matches your decor and wall colors. Also, space heaters are no longer just these big bulky items, but are compact and come in neutral colors like black or white. These space heaters are good to have on hand and can pack a nice heat punch when your furnace temporarily goes.

Consider these items in your house that are so much more stylish now than they used to be. They can preserve the function of your home when there is an emergency.

Kitchen Remodeling Trends That Increase Your Property Value!

This post is provided by Matt Lee.

Kitchen remodeling projects involve redesigning the kitchen’s layout, creating new forms and updated, energy-efficient functionality. Whether you are actively looking to sell or plan on staying in your home for many years to come, kitchen remodels can have a significant impact on your home’s value.

Many kitchen remodeling options that maximize the resale value of the home deal with the materials used for countertops, wall backsplashes, and floors. Just how much a kitchen remodel will add to the value of your home depends on many factors, including the materials used for countertops and flooring, the quality and functionality of the appliances, and the overall energy and cost efficiency of the remodeled kitchen.

Countertops

Countertops set the tone and character of your kitchen and can make the most significant impact on prospective buyers. Modern technological advances have opened up the options for high quality, durable materials to give your kitchen countertops strong and attractive surfaces for your most important room. Upgrading kitchen countertops as part of a comprehensive remodeling project is an essential element to increase the value of your home. Granite and solid surface kitchen countertop ideas in your remodeling project design will bring added beauty and functionality to your new kitchen.

Granite kitchen countertops are constructed from ground quartz and binding resins to provide a durable surface that is resistant to heat, stains, and moisture. Available in standard and waterfall countertop edge options, granite countertops come in just about any color or finish and are spotted with unique veining in each slab. Granite countertops will retain a pristine appearance for many years of regular use and serve to increase the value of the home.

Updating Kitchen Floors

Using the same flooring material throughout the entire level where your kitchen resides will make the home appear larger and add resale value. Installing the right kind of flooring material can result in a direct return on your investment when it comes time to sell.

Hardwood floors in kitchen remodeling projects are a rising trend that will add a classic look that is easy to maintain and will last for many years. Grey tone wood flooring flooring has become an extremely popular kitchen flooring option that looks great and is becoming a standard to help increase home values through kitchen remodeling projects.

Updating Windows

Replacing or adding windows as part of a remodeling job provides beauty and adds natural light to the ambiance of your kitchen. There is a wide range of kitchen window types and styles on the market that will match your décor and needs. From a garden window above the sink to an expansive picture window showing off your view, energy-saving windows that help to keep utility bills low will also add resale value to your home.

Cabinetry

Updating kitchen cabinets during a remodel will define the look and style of your new kitchen and can have a real impact on your home’s resale value. Great looking and functional cabinetry designs make a kitchen look excellent and practical at the same time. Prospective buyers will not just look at the outside of your kitchen cabinets; they will want them to be well organized and plotted out to make the best use of the kitchen as a whole during meal preparation and storage.

Lighting

When designing a kitchen remodel the lighting plan can make a major impact on the way your new kitchen will look and work. Properly designed and installed ambient, accent, and task lighting can make a big difference in the look and functionality of your new kitchen.

Kitchens are most often a central hub of the house where people gather to cook, eat, and socialize. It is the most-trafficked area of your home, and the first room prospective buyers typically inquire about when looking to buy a home. Remodeling your kitchen is one of the best investments a homeowner can make.

The BIG 4-0!

Guess what? Yesterday was my birthday! I can't believe I just turned 40!

Despite the circumstances, this year's birthday is a very special one for me. Besides the arrival of a baby, my mom is also here with us. Although there is no expensive dinner, no birthday cake, no birthday card, no birthday gifts and no flowers, my heart felt full, thanks to two wonderful meals lovingly prepared by my mom.

She made my favorite dish, the braised pork ribs. It is my mom's signature dish and it was delicious.

It may look simple but it took my mom tremendous effort to prepare this dish (chopping those thick pork rib bones was a backbreaking chore). And for that, I am thankful. During this difficult period, I feel blessed to be healthy and to be at home celebrating my birthday with my loved ones.

My birthday wish this year is for our world to become healthy again so nobody gets sick anymore. I hope everyone continue to stay well, stay safe and stay healthy!

Simple Tips To Make Your Bathroom Look Larger!

This post is provided by Andrew Simmons.

Most homes have small bathrooms. When this is the case, it is difficult to create a room that is functional and stylish at the same time. Chances are you only think about plumbers to take care of problems like blocked drain Canberra cases when hiring professionals, so hiring an interior designer to make changes is often not considered. However, this is always a good idea.

In a smaller bathroom, you need to use design tricks when you want to make the room look larger. Some great tips you can use are presented below.

Use As Much Natural Light As Possible

Natural light is highly beneficial for a smaller bathroom. It always opens up the space and when the color scheme used is light, it creates a snowball effect so that the entire room appears to be larger than it is. As an extra tip, use a window shade that is translucent so that even more light enters the room.

Go For An All-White Bathroom

If there is a style for your bathroom that is always relevant, it is the all-white bathroom. By simply using a white-based color scheme you make the room look larger because white is the best color to reflect light. When most bathroom fixtures are white, the overall look becomes seamless and is not broken.

Obviously, the ceiling should be painted with the same color as the walls. This is true even if you do not use white and you prefer another color.

Add Tiles Right Up To The Ceiling

Whenever possible, use the exact same tiles all throughout the bathroom. This means installing them on the entire surface of the wall, up to the bathroom’s ceiling. This makes the bathroom look larger because it removes horizontal lines on the walls. The space is instantly opened up and makes it seem as if the ceiling is placed higher.

Create Longer Lines

When you want to make it look as if there is more available space, an important thing is to draw the eye of the viewer towards the room’s widest point. This can be done with the use of the room’s longest line, like a wall that does not have an attached window. Create the horizontal line there with the use of a shelf so that the small bathroom looks larger

Use Clear Glass For The Shower

Patterned glass and shower curtains practically create one more wall. This divides the bathroom into new sections and makes the entire space look much smaller than it is.

You want to use glass shower screens because they effectively reflect light and manage to easily open up a space. If you want the look to be more seamless, use frameless shower screens. They remove the visual barriers.

Use Large Mirrors

As you already realized, when you can reflect more light, the small bathroom looks bigger. This is why you should not just use the standard smaller bathroom mirror that is placed over your sink. A much better alternative would be to mirror the entire wall or as much as you possibly can. The effect will be very similar to having a window as more light is brought into all the corners of the room.

Things To Consider Before Buying Land!

This post is provided by James Fitzpatrick.

According to recent housing statistics, there are about 1.2 million new homes built each year in the United States. While many people often buy their homes from a company, some people may choose to work with a real estate developer to build their own home with them. For the aspiring business leaders, some may choose to build their home completely on their own and research how to become a real estate developer. If you want to become a real estate developer and create your own home with the land that you purchase, there are some things that you need to know before purchasing land. Here are some of the main questions you need to ask before you buy anything.

1. How Can You Get Utilities?

One thing that people must know before they purchase a piece of land to build a home is if they will have access to public utilities. You should always make sure that you can have access to electricity, water, and public sewer, if wanted. You must also ask how much these things will likely cost. The further away you are from people, the more materials these companies would need to run the electric or pipes to your home. You should always get a rough estimate of how much it would cost to access these utilities.

2. How Much Has The Area Grown?

Another question that you should ask and research independently is the growth of the surrounding area or county in the last few years. If the area around you is growing, you may be at risk of living in a neighborhood one day if everyone buys up the land around your home. You should try to imagine what other people might want in an area and determine if the location you want may be similar to what other people also want.

3. Are There Any State Parks Nearby?

Knowing the location of any state, local, or national parks in the surrounding area will give you an idea of how much the area may change. These parks are often unable to be touched, altered, or developed in any way. If you can purchase a piece of land near a park, it may be a little more expensive, but you can have peace of mind knowing that it will never be developed. You can have the same view for hundreds of years.

4. How Is The Soil?

Some people may purchase a piece of land for the view without taking into consideration the soil and ground. If the soil is especially rocky, the cost to build your home may be much more expensive than you have budgeted for. If you understand the condition of the soil, you will have a better understanding of how long and how expensive it may be to build your dream home.

5. Will Construction Crews Work Here?

Depending on where you choose to build your home, you may not have any trouble finding a construction crew to help you build your dream home. If you are looking to build your home off the grid, you may have difficulty finding a construction company willing to travel that distance every day. Ensure that you can find construction companies, interior designers, plumbing workers, electrical contractors, and other tradesmen who are willing to work at your location for a reasonable price. Depending on the area that you want to work, it may be difficult to drive heavy machinery up there so the companies may charge more money for the job. Be sure to get a quote from the different companies so that you know how much you should budget for each job that needs to be completed. You may need to find a different piece of land that is closer to people if the price gets too high.

Building your dream home is an exciting and memorable journey, but it is best to ask all of these questions before getting started on your project. If you want to make the project a little bit easier and stress-free, you may want to hire an experienced real estate developer to help you make the right decision. They can help guide you through the difficult process of finding the perfect plot of land to build your dream home.

Happy 9th blog anniversary and a little announcement!

Believe it or not, my little blog just turned 9 today! Time really flies when you are doing what you love and sharing what you are passionate about (interior design)! I want to take a moment to say thank you to all of you who continued to follow and read my blog. I would also like to thank my loyal readers who take a minute of their busy lives to drop me a positive and encouraging comment from time to time.

I would also like to use this opportunity to apologize for the lack of quality contents these days. Since vacationing in Malaysia during the end of 2018, I have been suffering from a terrible jet lag (Malaysia is about 12 hours ahead of United States) for almost 2 months. My waking and sleeping hours was totally messed up so I wasn't feeling like my old self, thus, putting my blog in the back burner.

When I felt better and was ready to start blogging again, (here comes the huge announcement), I found out that I am PREGNANT!

We have been trying for a while so we were thrilled when we learned about the good news! Perhaps of my age, this pregnancy is much more difficult than my first pregnancy (more than 13 years ago). I did not feel well and I am always feeling tired, sleepy, uncomfortable (lot of minor aches here and there throughout the day) and frankly, not feeling productive at all. There are many gorgeous interiors I wanted to share on this blog but I couldn't get myself to do it. Sigh...

As my due date is getting nearer and nearer (it's March 6th, by the way), my thoughts are often revolved around the baby. The truth is, besides not feeling well, I also spent way too much time shopping online for baby stuff and making decorating choices for the nursery! Speaking of the nursery (more like a nursery nook), it's now 90% done (I am just waiting for a few items to arrive) so I hope to share pictures of the nursery nook with you once it's 100% done.

Thanks again for your support. I hope you continue to stay with me, my lovelies! You guys rock!

Top Tips For Designing A Luxury Bedroom!

This post is provided by David John.

You spend seven to nine hours a day in your bedroom, but that does not mean this part of the home always gets the attention it deserves. Because living rooms and kitchens are more often used for entertaining, these rooms tend to be the first that people remodel. However, the truth is that a well designed bedroom will help you relax and sleep easier. At Latest Bedding, we believe everyone should be able to go to sleep at night in a beautiful, comfortable space that makes them smile upon walking in the door. Keep reading for our top tips on creating a luxury bedroom.

Premium Fabrics And Textures

Whoever said beauty means pain probably was not sleeping on the right bedding. The most exceptional bedrooms feature supremely soft Egyptian cotton sheets and pillowcases, plush, high-end luxury comforter sets, and sleek, satiny curtains. Want to give your bedroom an extra touch of luxury? Add some brightly hued accent pillows in fun fabric like velvet, faux fur, and even silk.

Pretty Paints

Just because white walls are the standard does not mean they are creating the right impression. If you truly want your bedroom to feel luxurious, consider choosing a paint color that sets the tone. For example, light blue or soft purple walls create a relaxed, romantic feel that helps you leave your worries at the door. On the other hand, a rich shade like burgundy or hunter will add excitement and drama to your bedroom. Not ready to paint your entire room in the new hue? Try out the style with an accent wall.

Fabulous Florals

Flowers never go out of style, and for good reason. Fresh and vibrant, florals remind people of springtime and all things new. A beautifully appointed floral bedroom will brighten up even the coldest of winter days, so consider swapping out your current bedding with a lovely flower-printed pattern in your favorite shades.

Lovely Lighting

It does not matter how beautiful your bedroom is if you can not see it. Once you are finished outfitting your new luxury bedroom, pick up some lights to show it off to the best advantage. Bedside lamps make for elegant accent pieces, while wall sconces add a touch of old-fashioned charm. Finally, overhead lighting is great for ensuring your outfit looks perfect before you walk out the door.

Some people look for a beautiful place to call home. Others make a place beautiful. At Latest Bedding, we believe luxury bedrooms need not come with a luxury price tag. Visit our site for a wide selection of high-end comforters, sheets, window panels, and more. We look forward to helping you create something extraordinary.

New Innovations For Your Home In 2020!

This post is provided by James Fitzpatrick.

Every year, new amazing innovations come out that are making the home cooler, more efficient, and a more amazing oasis than ever before. The year 2020 only promises to break out even more innovations for the home that will help connect it to the world and make it super efficient for you and your family. For the past decade, more and more technology has been used in every part of the house, from different types of mattresses to controlling lights and thermostats all from a touch of a button on your phone.

Below is a list of the top innovations coming out in 2020 that will make our homes more comfortable and easier to live in than ever before.

Making your kitchen smarter

The most important appliance in your entire kitchen is the refrigerator. You use the refrigerator more than any other appliance throughout the day. You get your meals and snacks out of it, get ice for your beverages, get your drinks, store food that will spoil, etc. This year, refrigerators are going to be filled with more technology than ever. They will come with features that will tell your family what the meal schedule is for the week and read your recipes out loud as you cook so you do not have to pause and look down as you cook. You will be able to write your grocery list down on the refrigerator which will then sync it with your phone so you can access it anywhere you go. A smart refrigerator will come with transparent touchscreens so you can see what you have in there without even having to open the door and can alert you when you have food that is about to go bad. This innovation will make life ten times easier and can be controlled in real-time with the straight-forward technology it offers.

Monitor your sleep and temperature

Getting a good night's sleep is vital for your health and your mood. You can achieve a better night's sleep by getting a smart mattress. There are some smart mattresses that will monitor what your sleep patterns are, allow you to control what the temperature of your mattress is, and can even wake you up when you need to get up every morning. It utilizes an aromatherapy alarm clock that senses when you are in the lightest part of your sleep cycle. The aroma that comes out of this smart alarm clock is a scent that is designed to give you energy and wake you up so you feel refreshed and ready to take on the day. Smartening up your bedroom is not only a way to make your life easier, but it also improves your overall health and your mood as well.

Make your bathroom smart as well

Smart bathrooms are just starting to make their way into the market and are expected to become more mainstream in the year 2020. However, a smart bathroom will take your bathroom experience to the next level and make it more like a spa than just another room in your home. You will have a digital assistant in there which will start your bath water for you. It will emit aromatherapy to calm you and will release brain waves that can be controlled from your smartphone. This will help you relax and sink into your experience so that you are completely calm when you come out and ready to unwind from the day.

Turn on your lights and your TV

New innovations for 2020 will show that using a smart assistant that is connected to your phone will allow you to turn on the lights, the radio, or TV, even when you are not home. Turn on the lights when you are on a trip so no one knows you are gone. Get the thermostat set just right so you come home to the most comfortable home after a long day.

Using some new innovations in your home in 2020 can make your home not only more comfortable and more fun to be in, but it will make it more efficient as well. Consider bringing this new technology into your home and see how much more functional your home becomes as a result.

Updates To Add For A Refreshed Home!

This post is provided by James Fitzpatrick.

Redecorating and adding a decorative flair to your home is sometimes not more than a simple weekend project. If you are tired of your boring kitchen or dated bathroom, there are some quick weekend projects that even the most novice of DIY level can perform.

1. Paint
2. Add new hardware
3. Replace textiles and window treatments

First Things First

The first thing you should do when you plan to renovate or redesign is to start with a clean and blank slate. Empty the room you will be working in of all its current decorative pieces. Cover any furniture that must stay so that it remains protected. Once space is emptied, it is time to perform a deep clean. Wipe all surfaces. Mop and dust, if necessary.

Refresh With A New Coat Of Paint

Even if you absolutely love the current color of paint in your space, you could give the room a fresh coat. Sun can naturally fade the paint and the lighting can also cause discoloration on ceiling paint. Give your ceiling a fresh coat of white ceiling paint and paint the walls to refresh the space. If you are unsure of what color you like for the room, get a few sample squares from your local paint supplier and let your creativity flow. A completely new color will make the entire room feel new and fresh.

Cabinets Will Look New With New Hardware

Dated cabinets do not always need to be replaced or painted. A good cleaning with some wood specialty cleaning cream will refresh the wood. Polish accordingly to bring out a marvelous shine. Once the cabinets have been cleaned and shined, you can then go ahead and add new hardware. If you are adding an interior barn door in your kitchen area, you can decide on a barn door hardware kit to make the door a real showpiece.

If you are sticking with the same color and have internal hinges, you will not need to replace the hinges. Focus on door pulls and knobs as well as drawer knobs. Hardware can completely change the way a kitchen and bathroom look.

Hardware is not just limited to kitchens, bathrooms, and their cabinetry. Doors can often look completely refreshed throughout the house when they have new hinges and handles. Closet doors, bedroom doors, and doors leading to the garage or basement will all benefit from a facelift. Barn doors are also all the trend right now and these are fabulous for creating space-saving solutions. In areas of the home where swing doors are not practical, a barn door will create a division and privacy barrier that is necessary. Old pocket doors can get stuck easily when the wood swells. Barn doors move easily on a rolling track and serve as both functional and statement pieces.

Out With The Drab And In With The Fab

Get rid of those dated textiles. Over time, the sun will naturally bleach your curtains. Kitchen curtains that are dated can be updated with shutters and blinds. Rugs or shower curtains in bathrooms can also become boring and dated. Both solutions can be found online or in big box stores and are easily switched out in an hour or less. The same is true for all the other rooms in your home. You can easily change the way a living room looks by adding a new rug, throw blanket, curtains, and decorative pillows. A bedroom can feel like a completely new room when new bedding is displayed.

When you decide to redecorate your home and update it a bit, make sure you allow yourself ample time. Set a block of time to focus on your project at hand and add a bit of extra time just in case you spend more time cleaning or prepping. Acquire all of your hardware, textiles, and paints in advance. Once you begin replacing dated pieces, you may find yourself compelled to continue on throughout the rest of your house and begin focusing on external elements as well.

You can also replace the front doorknob and add decorative hinges and pieces to your garage door to create a rustic barn door appearance that will flow into your home design as well. When the job is done, you will sit back and feel refreshed in the new atmosphere within your home.
